The Ellington Kid (2012, Dan Sully)

Summary: Two friends sit in a kebab shop in London. One tells the other a story he'd heard about a boy who'd recently been stabbed by a gang in the street. He'd staggered into the very kebab shop they are sitting in, desperately looking for somewhere to hide, pursued by the gang, looking to finish him off. But the gang hadn't thought about the shop's owners... I enjoyed the comedy aspects of the film and how time is manipulated so that the past events (the attacks) is played along side the two friends, in the present, who are talking about the attack in the kabab store where it happened. I didn't really have any problems with the film as it was short and concise so it didn't spend it times on unnecessary tangents and the actual cinematography and editing was all pretty good.

Slap (2015, Nick Rowland)

Summary: A teenage boxer searching for self-definition gives in to his true colours at the risk of losing everything. I liked how the film remained fairly realistic and how it didn't end with the cliche happy ending. i felt that with the film ending on a sour note it gave the film a stronger sense of gravity that was otherwise lacking. One problem with the film I had was that I felt that the film could be more concise because, at 25 minutes long, the film feels like it goes on for a bit too long.

The Fly (2014, Olly Williams)

Summary: A getaway driver is buckling under the pressure as he has to wait outside a bank whistle the rest of his crew is robbing it. All he has to do is focus for 3 minutes but then a fly gets trapped in his car. I liked how the film quickly escalated yet did not jump from one scenario to another without reason. Furthermore, despite being contained to a car for most of the film the cinematography did not feel claustrophobic or sacrifice the viewing experiences a result. One personal problem I had with the film is that despite it being a comedy I didn't fund it very funny. This was because what was I didn't find the man's actions to what was happening to be all that funny or believe.
